Music in Class

There're so many benefits to using songs for learning English, such as developing listening comprehension, enriching vocabulary, drilling grammar (especially tenses), practising pronunciation, etc.
* Wanna teach/learn Present Simple? -  "She Loves You" by the Beatles; "Believe" by E. John;
* Past Simple? - "Yesterday" or "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles;
* Present Perfect Continuous? - "Hello" by Adele;
* Present Perfect? - "Show Must Go On" by the Queen;
* Shapes and forms? - "Shape Of My Heart" by Sting;
* Conditionals? - "Imagine" by John Lennon;
* Daily Routine vocab? - "Our House" by Madness;
* Religion Vocab? -  "Take Me To Church" by Hozier;
* Contractions? - "Feel" by Robby Williams;
* Troubles with Kids? -  lots of Nursery Rhymes.

And more...... as there're so many songs by other bands (not only of British origin) that can be used in teaching & learning: e.g.: "Tom's Dinner" by Susanne Vega or "Lemon Tree" by Fool's Garden which are fantastic for Present Continuous.
Here's a link to some of them:

"My motherland: The place where I live" by Olia Adamishyn ( 9 form)

  I live in the beautiful village of Vysypivtsi which was founded in 1785. Our village is small, nevertheless, I love it very much. Here you can see a variety of exciting landscapes which are beautiful in any season. In the middle of the village flows  the river  Nesterika. Buildings are located on its both banks. There is a small forest on the hill nearby. If you climb the hill you can see the whole village, at a glance, with breathtaking colorful scenery.

In Vysypivtsi there is a beautiful church  which all people attend. Our church was founded in 1867 in honor of St. Paraskeva. The village community tries our church to be the jewel and all dwellers are proud of it. We also have a school, a club and a shop.

   There are many springs with very clean and tasty water. There’s a legend that the first man who settled here chose this place because of delicious water. This small spring remains to these days and the water in it is as good as ever.Often the travellers stop to drink our  water and take it to their homes.
   People in our village are kind, generous and hard-working.  They love the land like their forefathers did. They take care of fertile soil and it pays back in plentiful harvests. We are not just good neighbours, we are close friends who support each other and help in difficult times. My villagers are sincere and honest, they disgust lies and strive for truth.
  My village is a great place to live in because you will never feel lonely here. Everyone is a part of a big and friendly community. People here do care about their spiritual health and care for those who are near them.
   I believe that our village will continue to evolve, grow and prosper because we all work for its future!

Activity 3. Mind Map
Mind maps resemble trees with branches and mimic the way our brains think—bouncing ideas off each other, rather than thinking linearly. You have to complete a sample mind map and thus put the words in proper places in our minds as well.
Fill in the mind map with the words from the text.

Activity 2. Interactive flashcards on Quizlet
As a memorization tool, Quizlet lets registered users create "sets" of terms customized for their own needs. These sets of terms can then be studied under several study modes.
You have to complete 4 tasks and play two games Scatter and Gravity.
1.     Flashcards. This mode is similar to paper flash cards. In it, users are shown a "card" for each term. Users can click to flip over the card and see the definition for that term.
2.     Learn. In this study mode, users are shown a term or definition and must type the term or definition that goes with what is shown.
3.     Speller. In this mode, the term is read out loud and users must type in the term with the correct spelling.
4.     Test. 4 written questions, 4 multiple choice questions, 3 True/False questions.
After this web address you can find flashcards created specially to learn words and their definitions from the text “Western Ukraine. Lviv. Chernivtsi. Kamyanets-Podilsky”. Student’s book “Culture Time for Ukraine. New Destinations”.
